Hatchet
This web assignment was designed for students at Christ the King School. The assignment was heavily based on an assignment designed by Karen Joesten at Cabrillo Middle School. For the most part, it was copied and pasted from Karen's site. I would like to thank Karen Joesten for permission to use her assignment and much of her work.
Introduction
The novel, Hatchet, has many themes. In order to understand the novel, you might want to learn about these four topics:
Aviation
Heart attack and health
Survival
Canadian wilderness.
Web sites are great resources for this type of information. Since the quality of the information varies, you want to select the BEST sites. Evaluate the sites using criteria described by Mrs. Wilcauskas and Mrs. Brent. Remember the criteria by using the mnemonic device: ALL CATHOLIC STUDENTS DANCE
A = ACCURACY
C = COMPLETENESS & CURRENCY
S = SCOPE & SUBJECT
D = DESIGN
Task
You and a partner will choose a subject to be researched. Mrs. Wilcauskas or Mrs. Brent will present the web site evaluation format we will be using. She will show examples using the projected computer screen. You need to take notes during the presentation. You will be provided with some web sites to evaluate using a graphic organizer. When your evaluations are complete, you are required to compile your information and present your recommendations to the class. Your grade does NOT depend on whether or not you chose a good website, but rather is you did a good job evaluating the website you have chosen.
